The Presidency on Tuesday blasted the coalition of northern youth groups for their recent protests on the increasing security challenges in the country, saying they enjoyed such liberty because we are operating at democratic government.
In separate statements, they decried the deplorable security situation in the North and demanded the immediate removal of the service chiefs.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement said, “For a start, if the group dared to issue such a comment under non-democratic method, they would have met a swift and harsh retribution from a dictatorial government.”
“They should thank their stars that we are operating a truly democratic government, where the rights of free speech are guaranteed and protected.”
Shehu further enjoined Nigerians to exercise patience as “the nation’s armed forces are fully capable of dealing with the challenges of banditry and terrorism, urging more patience as the military takes appropriate steps to block gaps being exploited to unleash mayhem on innocent citizens.”
